Before Claudia met me, she just purchased her Dad’s salon of 28 years… and had been running it for a year or so.
So she had transitioned from working for her Dad for 10 years, to being in charge of her day for the first time. Claudia had a lot of ideas for changing the salon, however her Dad didn’t like change, and didn’t want to change the way things were done – but she knew things had to change for the better.
Claudia was super nervous about her first call with me, knowing that she’d have to answer some really hard questions – but she was prepared to do it because she was keen for a change. Naturally, this resulted in Claudia needing to confront her dad, and as a result they had a massive fight. Claudia talks about the details at 0.47.
But after 24 hours they were able to talk it out. He didn’t want to sell retail. He didn’t want to put pressure on the staff and he didn’t want his salon to be all salesy – but after watching one video he started taking it all on board.
Claudia faced the challenges a LOT of salon owners have to face in transitioning staff to making retail sales – except in this case, it was even harder. That staff member was her Dad – and he had owned the salon for 30 years previously – yet she tackled the issues head on to build the salon she truly wanted.
Even getting the first order of products into the salon was an ordeal (2.23 in the video).
Now, after learning how to sell retail the right way, Claudia’s Dad now sells more retail than she does. Turns out, he had her back the whole time – and just needed to see the results.
It showed her that she has to keep fighting for what’s right even when things get hard. That there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
